Artists Sponsor Artists: Bring Ahmad Mire'e to Canada
December 30, 2015
About Ahmad Mire: Studying theatre in Cairo, Egypt since 2012, Ahmad and will graduate in a few months. His Syrian passport has expired and so when he finishes his studies he will be forced to leave Egypt. Returning to Syria, where he will be required to fulfill mandatory military service, is not an option for Ahmad. His plan was to, as he says, "ride the sea".
But now, having made a connection with Najda Now and MT Space, Ahmad hopes to come as a refugee to Canada.
Support Our Campaign: We feel that by reaching out to the theatre community in Waterloo Region, Toronto, and across Canada, we will be able to raise the funds necessary for him to be accepted as a refugee.
We plan to welcome him as an artist into our community of Waterloo Region after we have raised the necessary funds to cover his living expenses for one year.
About The Organizers: This project is a joint initiative of two organizations: MT Space and Najda Now. MT Space is leading the crowdfunding campaign. We are volunteering our time to make it happen. The Syrian Humanitarian Relief and Development Institute, Najda Now will handle the finances, refugee sponsorship paperwork, and legal process. We will provide social support to Ahmad when he arrives in Waterloo Region.
MT Space is Waterloo Region's first and only multicultural theatre company continues to fulfill its mandate by creating, producing and presenting high quality artistic performances and cultural events reflective of the people who live in the area. More about MT Space.
