Can you hear the music?

Violins, Cellos, Ouds, clarinets… that is right, Levant has it all.

In 2019, Levant embarked on an ambitious project of purchasing musical instruments to make available for community members who are interested in learning music but cannot afford it.

With more than $25,000 available in funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Levant purchased 10 violins, 10 Ouds, 2 Cellos, 10 clarinets and 2 qanuns as well as 27 music stands. The best part is that the majority of these instruments were bought from local small businesses such as Riedstra’s Violin Shop and Aberfoyle Fiddle Shop.

Right now, the music instruments are being stored in the Family Centre and are waiting anxiously to be played.

The goal is to start an affordable community music school for newcomers and low-income families in the Kitchener Waterloo region and to provide a lending musical library for music students who cannot afford buying or even renting an instrument.

This is an expanding project that Levant is pursuing in hopes of making music affordable and accessible for all.

Who knows what the future holds…. an orchestra maybe?
